We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Controller to join our Finance team. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in supporting the Controller in managing the financial operations of the Organization. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong background in accounting principles, experience in governmental accounting, and excellent organizational and communication skills. The Assistant Controller will report to the Controller and will interact with all levels of the Organization. The candidate should have a strong understanding of appropriate policies and internal controls and be able to identify areas for improvement when needed. The Assistant Controller will assist the Controller in overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance. This role will lead the month-end and year-end close process and ensure the proper and timely recording of financial transactions. The Assistant Controller will ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards (e.g., GASB) and regulations governing the receipt, expenditure, and reporting of grant funds. Additionally, the Assistant Controller will participate in the preparation of monthly internal financial statements, reports, and analyses for accuracy and completeness. In this position, the Assistant Controller will review journal entries and reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance. They will oversee the financial management of grants to ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance, prepare and review reports required by grantor agencies, and oversee the budgeting for grants. The Assistant Controller will analyze financial data to identify trends, forecast future results, and advise on potential financial planning decisions. Alongside the Controller and CFO, the Assistant Controller will collaborate with division managers to develop and monitor annual departmental budgets, incorporating governmental funding sources and restrictions. The Assistant Controller will assist in the coordination of annual audits and manage the preparation of audit schedules, financial statements, and footnotes, as well as coordinate responses to auditor inquiries. This role will also supervise accounting staff, including performance evaluation, training, and hiring, while providing leadership and technical guidance to staff in matters related to GASB, Uniform Guidance, and other accounting standards. The Assistant Controller will identify opportunities for streamlining accounting processes, enhancing internal controls, and optimizing financial systems, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and system upgrades. Staying updated on regulatory changes and accounting standards is crucial, ensuring compliance and recommending adjustments as necessary. The Assistant Controller will support the Controller and CFO on any special ad hoc projects and perform other duties as assigned.
