About the position

The Assistant Controller position at Priceline is a pivotal role within the Finance team, responsible for overseeing the company's accounting function and ensuring financial security. This position is designed for a hands-on, high-potential professional who will work closely with the VP, Controller, acting as a key player in managing financial operations. The Assistant Controller will serve as the primary point of contact for technical inquiries and strategic initiatives across the organization, making it a highly visible role that contributes significantly to maintaining a robust internal control environment and fostering talent development within the team. In this role, the Assistant Controller will lead the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting for the company and its subsidiaries. This includes overseeing the accuracy of judgmental reserves and establishing accounting models for new revenue arrangements. The position also plays a crucial role in finance transformation efforts, including system implementations and functional optimizations, while identifying inefficiencies in the close process and implementing necessary changes. The Assistant Controller will analyze all transactions to ensure compliance with US GAAP and consistency with other brands under the Booking Holdings umbrella. Additionally, the role involves coordinating analytical reviews of the income statement for budget versus actual variances and documenting explanations for balance sheet variances. Leading a global team, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for motivating, coaching, training, and mentoring team members, as well as performing ad hoc financial analyses as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an accurate and timely month-end close and related financial reporting for the company and its subsidiaries.
  • Ensure accuracy of judgmental reserves.
  • Establish accounting models for new revenue arrangements.
  • Play a pivotal role in finance transformation and modernization efforts, including system implementations and functional optimization.
  • Identify inefficiencies in the close process and implement necessary changes such as workflow and technical improvements.
  • Analyze all transactions to ensure proper accounting under US GAAP and consistency with other BHI brands.
  • Coordinate analytical review on income statement for budget vs. actual variances and analyze balance sheet variances, documenting explanations for variances.
  • Lead a global team, motivating, coaching, training, and mentoring team members.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis.

Requirements

  • BS in a related discipline (accounting, finance, economics, business administration) is required; MBA is preferred.
  • 12+ years of total experience, ideally as an assistant controller of a global division of a public company.
  • CPA is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP, Oracle, OneStream, and Blackline is desired.
  • Strong understanding of foreign currency accounting is required.
  • Experience in an environment requiring quick turnaround and in-depth financial analysis.
  • Ability to manage the monthly close process within a large global organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and technical knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Good organizational and work management skills with the ability to manage and track multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and coordinate the efforts of others.
