About the position

The Assistant Controller at First Community Bank will provide technical accounting and financial reporting expertise under the supervision of the Controller. This role is crucial for ensuring the implementation and maintenance of accounting principles, practices, and procedures, leading to accurate and timely financial statements. The Assistant Controller will also coordinate SEC filings and serve as the primary contact for external auditors and internal audit functions.

Responsibilities

  • Research new and existing accounting guidance.
  • Lead the coordination and preparation of SEC filings.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the company's external auditors and internal audit function.
  • Responsible for monthly closing processes, including reviewing the general ledger and determining monthly manual accruals.
  • Prepare reporting for review and approval.
  • Monitor income and expense accounts and perform analysis to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Work closely with the Finance team during the monthly financial close process, including recording journal entries and preparing general ledger reconciliations.
  • Analyze key accounts and prepare budget to actual and variance analyses.
  • Assess adequacy of reserves and accruals.
  • Prepare, maintain, and enhance internal control documentation under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and drive its compliance.
  • Prepare corporate income and property tax worksheets and file period tax reports with various government agencies.
  • Assist with budgeting and Finance/accounting projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or related field required.
  • CPA required.
  • 3 or more years of accounting or audit experience with financial institutions including SEC reporting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP rules and requirements and SOX controls.
  • Active knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate financial results.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to make sound and timely decisions.
  • Results-oriented team builder with superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and multi-task under deadlines with strong attention to detail.
