About the position

For over two decades, NIC Partners (Employee built/Employee owned) has dedicated our expertise and commitment towards enhancing the digital and physical security of K-12 educational campuses in Southern California. The Assistant Controller reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for preparing and consolidating financial statements. This role involves establishing and maintaining internal controls and managing all aspects of the general ledger. The Assistant Controller will assist in providing tax, insurance, and other reports required by governmental regulations. This position is hybrid, with in-house training for the first month. The Assistant Controller will prepare financial statements, monthly reports, quarterly reports, and yearly reports. They will manage all aspects of the general ledger and subledgers, assist with billing and tax documentation preparation, and collaborate with the IT department to maintain financial records and system processes. The role requires monitoring and reviewing financial transactions, preparing monthly and annual reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with various statutory requirements, GAAP, and established policies and procedures. Additionally, the Assistant Controller will prepare journal entries, maintain and reconcile accounts, manage cash, and prepare sales tax data for reporting purposes. This position also involves working with the insurance agent for risk management, managing bonding capacity, and overseeing ESOP management. The Assistant Controller will participate in short-term and long-term corporate planning, KPI and sales commissions management, and will work closely with other departments to help advance the accounting department. They will ensure that reconciling items are investigated and cleared promptly, assist with budget forecasting, and evaluate the department's strengths and weaknesses to offer continuous improvement to the organization. Adherence to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules is essential, and the Assistant Controller must be available to work Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm PST, with potential additional hours or weekend work as needed to meet deadlines or fulfill travel obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial statements, monthly reports, quarterly reports, and yearly reports.
  • Manage all aspects of the general ledger and subledgers.
  • Assist with billing and tax documentation preparation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting from a four-year college or university.
  • MBA or CPA designation is a strong plus.
  • Equivalent combination of education/job experience.
  • Excellent understanding of PC and standard Office software and hardware.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, organize, solve problems, and complete tasks independently with little supervision required.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
