About the position

The Assistant Controller will oversee the accounting activities of the company's operations, focusing on tax compliance, internal controls, financial processes, and reporting. This critical role is essential for building the future infrastructure and direction of the company, and the Assistant Controller will be part of a high-performing finance team dedicated to executing the company's vision and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes and the preparation of internal and external financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other applicable laws.
  • Oversee the preparation of the Company's clinical trial, CMC, and research accruals.
  • Oversee AP and payroll operations, including supervision of contract accounting staff, if applicable.
  • Support and/or lead the company's activities with external auditors and manage internal controls.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls appropriate for GAAP.
  • Prepare internal period financial reports and assist in the planning and development of the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and financial models to support FP&A.
  • Support and lead elements of the infrastructure build required to meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the needs and demands of the business.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree and CPA (or equivalent) required.
  • 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in a finance function.
  • 5 years' life science industry experience, preferably in an early-stage R&D environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP, SEC rules, and SOX requirements.
  • Proven experience as an Assistant Controller, Senior Accounting Manager, or Associate Director of Accounting.
  • Proven track record of establishing financial systems and process improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact across the organization and build trusting relationships.
  • Excellent judgment and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to solve complex problems, willingness to perform hands-on duties, and the ability to juggle competing priorities and tasks.
