About The Position

The Assistant Cook at the Oglala Sioux Tribe is responsible for preparing three nutritious meals daily for inmates at a correctional facility. Requirements

  • Must be able to pass the Food Handlers Course within six months of hire.
  • Ability to follow directions and exercise mature judgment in pressure situations.
  • Professional demeanor at all times.
  • Must pass a physical and medical examination to rule out conditions that may interfere with duties.
  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • No misdemeanor or felony convictions within the past year.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preparation of all daily meals for the Correctional Facility.
  • Perform cooking tasks and supervise inmate workers when assisting in the kitchen.
  • Prepare morning, noon, and evening meals for inmates.
  • Prepare evening snacks for diabetic inmates.
  • Maintain the kitchen in a clean manner according to department policy and federal health standards.
  • Follow orders from Correctional Officers during crisis situations.
  • Plan menus considering food quantities, recipes, and nutritional requirements.
  • Abide by jail security requirements and practices.
  • Prepare meals to meet special dietary needs as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Keep appropriate records as established by department procedures.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the kitchen.
  • Maintain a drug and alcohol-free personal life and comply with the Code of Conduct.
