About the position

The Assistant Corporate Controller at Novanta is a pivotal leadership role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, primarily focused on overseeing external reporting, technical accounting, SOX compliance, and the US Shared Services. This position is crucial for ensuring that accurate and timely financial information is provided while adhering to company policies, SOX regulations, and SEC guidelines. The Assistant Corporate Controller will manage a team of over 25 employees, including 4 direct reports, and will play a significant role in shaping the financial landscape of the organization. In terms of SEC reporting and technical accounting, the Assistant Corporate Controller will own the preparation, review, and filing of all SEC reports, including Forms 8-K, 10-Q, 10-K, and proxy statements. This involves coordinating efforts with internal groups and external stakeholders to ensure that all filings are accurate and timely. The role also includes reviewing consolidated financial statements and other data for press releases, leading purchase price allocation, and managing technical accounting integration for all acquisitions. Additionally, the Assistant Corporate Controller will evaluate the impact of new accounting standards and lead their implementation, providing advice on technical accounting matters and complex business transactions. Compliance and controls are another critical aspect of this role. The Assistant Corporate Controller will ensure ongoing SOX compliance, including budget monitoring, and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining global accounting policies. This includes providing recommendations and remediation plans for any control deficiencies and presenting materials to the Audit Committee. In terms of accounting operations, the Assistant Corporate Controller will manage the global accounting consolidation process and system, leading the US Shared Services accounting function, which encompasses Revenue/Receivables, COGS/Inventory, and Accounts Payable. The role also involves overseeing the daily management of accounting processes and general ledger activities within the shared services center. Finally, the Assistant Corporate Controller will focus on team development, overseeing the worldwide monthly and quarterly accounting closes, developing and training accounting staff on policies and procedures, recognizing skill gaps within the team, and offering training opportunities to enhance competencies. Identifying potential successors for key roles and developing their capabilities will also be a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Active CPA certification required.
  • 10+ years of management experience.
  • Big 4 or comparable Public Accounting experience.
  • Strong manufacturing accounting background is necessary.
  • Experience in a multi-national publicly traded company.
  • Proficiency in Excel, consolidation, and ERP systems.
  • Ability to interface with cross-functional leadership.
