About the position
The Assistant Counsel II position at the Atlanta Housing Authority is a key role within the in-house legal team, focusing on providing legal support for affordable housing initiatives. This role involves complex contract negotiations, regulatory interpretation, and offering strategic legal advice to various business units within the organization. The incumbent will play a crucial part in ensuring compliance with governmental regulations and corporate governance while supporting the legal needs of nearly 26,000 low-income households in Atlanta.
Responsibilities
- Deliver legal services for AH's contracting and procurement matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various contracts.
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations, providing legal analysis related to AH's business activities.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents, including memoranda and transactional documents.
- Perform high-level policy and corporate counsel responsibilities related to AH's governing Board and Executive Team.
- Assist in mentoring and training subordinate attorneys, legal assistants, and paralegals.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
- At least five years of relevant experience in a legal capacity.
- Membership in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
- Demonstrated leadership performance in positions of increasing responsibility.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clients and co-workers.
Nice-to-haves

- Knowledge of housing laws and HUD regulations.
