The Assistant Database Administrator plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the Jenzabar administrative computing system, the PowerFAIDS financial aid system, and various SQL Server applications utilized by different departments across the campus. This position requires close collaboration with the Database Administrator and other professionals within the University Information Technologies (UIT) department to ensure the smooth functioning of SQL Server-based applications. The Assistant Database Administrator is responsible for performing directed tasks that maintain these applications, which includes script and report development. The role offers remote work options, providing flexibility in the work environment. In terms of responsibilities, the Assistant Database Administrator will perform scheduled data transfers between servers, automate processes where possible, and assist with the installation and upgrades of software systems such as Jenzabar and PowerFAIDS. The individual will also be tasked with accurately assessing and assigning support calls, resolving routine issues, and researching and installing SQL Server service packs as approved by the Database Administrator. Additionally, the role involves working with Network and Server staff to enhance server resources, developing and documenting maintenance plans, and rebooting or restarting services as necessary. As the position progresses, the Assistant Database Administrator will take on more advanced responsibilities, including acting as a backup to the Database Administrator during business hours, assisting in the development of backup and disaster recovery plans, and serving as a technical lead on strategic initiatives that require technology solutions. The role also includes developing and delivering documentation and training for relevant systems, maintaining a hardware/software inventory system, and developing enterprise reports using InfoMaker and SQL Server Reporting Services. Furthermore, the Assistant Database Administrator will be involved in developing and maintaining stored procedures, triggers, and batch files, as well as collaborating with Web Applications staff to create and maintain internal web-based database applications.
