About the position

The Assistant Dean for Advancement, School of Law will be a strategic leader focused on developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising plan for the School. This includes alumni engagement, annual giving, leadership annual giving, major giving, planned giving, and donor stewardship. The successful candidate will serve as the chief development officer for the Kline School of Law, providing counsel to the Dean and faculty on advancement matters, setting philanthropic strategies, and organizing the School's philanthropic priorities to maximize external support. The role involves planning, leading, and growing all aspects of alumni engagement and fundraising initiatives, with a strong emphasis on cultivating and closing major and planned gift commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Dean's cabinet and the University Advancement Leadership Team.
  • Develop annual and long-term advancement strategies and plans for the School.
  • Identify and cultivate sources of philanthropic support through fundraising strategies.
  • Provide strategic support to the Dean in engaging major and planned gift prospects/donors.
  • Direct the work of Law Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.
  • Coordinate all fundraising efforts for the School in partnership with the Dean and SVP.
  • Create and nurture a culture of philanthropy within the School.
  • Establish and communicate the funding needs and priorities of the School.
  • Provide regular performance evaluations of the Director of Law Alumni Relations and Annual Giving.
  • Serve as the liaison between the School and University divisions.
  • Collaborate with University Advancement partners to plan and execute strategic Development activities.
  • Conduct prospect review and strategy meetings with the Dean and SVP.
  • Maintain an active portfolio of major and planned giving donors and prospects.
  • Provide leadership and engagement strategy for the Dean to meet with alumni.
  • Assist with appropriate spending of donor funds.
  • Coordinate and produce special reports and analyses for management.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • 7 to 10 years of successful experience in major gift and/or planned gift development.

Nice-to-haves

  • J.D. or other advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • High level of emotional intelligence.
  • Proven track record of closing six-and seven-figure major and planned gifts.
  • Experience working on a comprehensive fundraising campaign in a complex educational setting.
  • Demonstrated progressive experience and successful results in fundraising/sales.
  • Experience managing or leading a development team.
