About the position

The Assistant Dean for Communications and Marketing at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a full-time leadership role within the School of Information Sciences. This position is responsible for interpreting, communicating, and marketing the iSchool's mission, vision, and priorities to both internal and external audiences. The role involves leading a communications and marketing team, developing innovative strategies to enhance the school's visibility and reputation, and managing media relations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the communications and marketing team, providing strategic direction and ensuring best practices in content development, branding, usability, design, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with senior administration to advance the school's mission and achieve goals.
  • Explore, develop, and implement innovative marketing and communications approaches that positively impact the stature of the iSchool.
  • Advise and guide the Dean and senior leadership on media and public relations matters, including sensitive topics.
  • Assess the effectiveness of communications and marketing activities through analytics and performance metrics.
  • Represent the college in campus-wide communication, marketing, and branding efforts.
  • Manage media relations and serve as the iSchool's principal resource for media inquiries.
  • Establish and grow strong networking and relationships throughout the college and across various media outlets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred.
  • Seven years of professional experience in communications and marketing with demonstrated success.
  • Extensive experience in the creation and execution of strategy.
  • Experience in managing projects and staff, leading teams, and managing operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in communications and/or marketing in higher education.
  • Previous experience in leading and managing a MARCOM group.
  • Experience in public relations and crisis management.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $110,000 to $135,000 based on qualifications and experience.
  • Hybrid work options may be available after an initial training period.
