The University of Virginia's School of Data Science is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded tenured professor to fill the role of Assistant Dean for Research. This position is not only an administrative role but also includes a tenured faculty appointment within the School. The Assistant Dean will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Research and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing various research initiatives within the School of Data Science. This role is critical in shaping the research landscape of the school and ensuring that it aligns with the broader goals of the university. The Assistant Dean will collaborate closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Research and other school leaders to achieve the unit's objectives while adhering to university policies and procedures. In addition to administrative duties, the Assistant Dean will be expected to engage in teaching, mentoring students, and conducting research. This multifaceted role requires a balance of leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on involvement in research activities. The Assistant Dean will manage research administration to support faculty in acquiring and executing their funded research activities. This includes developing and overseeing research programs aimed at recruiting and engaging undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds in research activities. The Assistant Dean will also monitor and evaluate strategies to enhance research productivity and impact, collaborate with faculty members to support their research endeavors, and identify funding opportunities to assist in securing research grants. Fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in research within the school is paramount, as is mentoring junior faculty members, post-docs, and graduate students in their research pursuits. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for developing policies and procedures that enhance the research productivity of faculty members, post-docs, and graduate students, and representing the school in academic and professional settings related to research.
