The Assistant Dean of Medical Education Research and Scholarship at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) School of Medicine (SOM) is a pivotal role responsible for establishing a robust infrastructure to support medical education research and integrating scholarship into innovative curricular aspects of medical education across the continuum. This position is designed for a leader who will work closely with the Senior Dean for the School of Medicine and the School of Health Professions to create a conducive environment for medical education research and scholarship. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research methodology and design, a proven track record of scholarship in medical education research, and experience in mentoring both faculty and trainees. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in developing and teaching medical education curriculum, with at least seven years of experience in undergraduate medical education (UME) and graduate medical education (GME) research, program evaluation, and quality improvement. The Assistant Dean will lead the School of Medicine in defining research priorities and strategies for scholarly engagement, particularly focusing on UME topics. This role involves collaboration with educational leaders to leverage ongoing curricular evaluations and quality improvement processes to design education research studies and disseminate findings. The Assistant Dean will also identify barriers to engagement in educational research and work with various units and teams at BCM to create actionable plans. Furthermore, the position includes mentoring faculty and trainees on medical education research projects, developing medical education curriculum, and serving as core teaching faculty and course/pathway director for the Medical Education Teaching and Scholarship (METS) pathway for medical students. The Assistant Dean will conduct statistical analyses for educational research projects as needed and oversee the annual tracking and reporting of medical education scholarship and grant productivity. Building relationships with medical education researchers nationally to support collaborations across institutions and collaborating on grant submissions for medical education research are also key responsibilities of this role.
