About the position

The Assistant Dean of Research Operations at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) plays a pivotal role in leading the Office of Research, which supports life-saving biomedical research. This position is responsible for overseeing nine distinct units within the office, ensuring compliance with policies, and guiding strategic growth and vision. The Assistant Dean collaborates with senior leadership and external partners to enhance the research mission and improve the overall institutional research experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in strategic planning efforts and lead mission-critical initiatives.
  • Lead research mission projects with affiliate partners and key stakeholders.
  • Represent the MCW research mission with key stakeholders, including clinical partners and government agencies.
  • Evaluate and guide research projects related to MCW-wide research endeavors.
  • Oversee operational planning for the MCW research enterprise.
  • Track performance of research investments and forecast resource needs.
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget for research operations.
  • Advocate for investigators and study teams to remove barriers and improve services.
  • Support the development and implementation of workforce plans.
  • Liaise with the Institutional Research Cores Program Director to oversee operational functions.
  • Oversee research space management and participate in institutional space management committees.
  • Assist in shaping policy for the research enterprise in collaboration with boards and committees.
  • Serve on various committees to represent the Research Office and MCW.
  • Oversee operations, workforce planning, and financials related to research functions.
  • Mentor multidisciplinary professionals to support career advancement.
  • Utilize performance metrics to ensure adequate resources for research grant awards.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • 15 years of experience in biomedical research operations leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Strong public speaking and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to assess and articulate a vision for academic medical centers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in research administration and policy development.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to human subject research.
