In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Assistant Dean will support the ongoing analysis of current and emerging educational and workforce trends, ensuring that the School's offerings and services are aligned with these trends. The role involves providing operational support to various stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff, while addressing emergent issues in a timely manner according to relevant policies and procedures. The Assistant Dean will also play a key role in supporting specialized and institutional accreditation initiatives, promoting academic innovation and excellence, and assisting in the preparation and updating of promotional materials and the School's website. Financial oversight is another critical aspect of this role, as the Assistant Dean will assist in the day-to-day monitoring and management of the School's budgets, facilities, and resources to ensure optimal utilization. The position also involves supporting student recruitment and retention efforts, maintaining robust relationships with alumni, industry, and community representatives, and ensuring safe work and learning environments. The Assistant Dean will represent the School and University in professional and community organizations, engage in collaborations with internal and external entities, and serve as an active member of the University's Academic Council and other committees as assigned. Overall, this position is integral to the success and advancement of the School of Transportation & Heavy Equipment and its stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, evaluation and development of faculty and academic staff.
  • Foster collegiality and positive morale within the School.
  • Collaborate on the development and fulfillment of short- and long-term strategic priorities for the School.
  • Support the analysis of educational and workforce trends and align the School's offerings accordingly.
  • Provide operational support to the School's programs, services, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with specialized and institutional accreditation initiatives.
  • Promote and support academic innovation and excellence.
  • Help prepare and update School and University promotional materials and website.
  • Monitor and manage School budgets, facilities, and resources.
  • Assist in the pursuit and acquisition of extramural resources.
  • Support student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with alumni, industry, and community representatives.
  • Maintain accurate records related to School interests.
  • Ensure safe work and learning environments.
  • Represent the School and University in professional and community organizations.
  • Engage in collaborations with internal and external entities to advance the School.
  • Serve as a contributing member of the University's Academic Council and other committees as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess credentials necessary to qualify as a faculty member for one of the School's programs; graduate degree(s) highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ethical and professional behavior.
  • Three or more years of progressive experience in collaborative management and leadership; experience in higher education administration preferred.
  • Postsecondary teaching experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with various constituencies.
  • Ability to plan, organize and fulfill complex initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and experience in working with technology.
  • Ability to research and interpret federal, state, and institutional policies.
  • Understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing higher education; comprehension of land-grant colleges and universities preferred.
  • Ability to effectively engage community and industry leaders and alumni.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of work, initiative, commitment, ethics, professional responsibility and judgment.
  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative data analysis, budgeting and reporting.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively recognize and resolve complex problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to mitigate conflict.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education administration is preferred.
