As an Assistant Deli Manager, you will ensure that hot and cold foods are prepared and displayed according to company standards. You will work closely with deli personnel to promote department sales and profits while maintaining a high level of customer service. This role involves training and developing team members, scheduling, planning, assigning, and directing work in conjunction with upper management. You will also support management by reviewing historical data regarding sales, advertisements, and promotions. In this position, you will co-manage inventory using item management processes to ensure satisfactory in-stock levels. You may review profit and loss, sales, shrink, and labor data with the department manager. You will be indirectly responsible for maintaining and improving sales performance, financial results, public relations, product quality, and work standards. Enforcing quality control and food safety standards is crucial, as is ensuring that dated products are stocked and rotated properly. You will also assist with slicing, weighing, packaging, and labeling deli products, preparing catering and delivery orders, and checking inventory on trucks to ensure accuracy in product ordering and associated paperwork. Promoting product sales through suggestive selling initiatives and appealing product displays will be part of your responsibilities, along with providing a friendly, customer-service-oriented attitude by greeting customers and answering questions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure hot and cold foods are prepared and displayed in accordance with Company standards.
  • Work with deli personnel to promote department sales and profits, as well as customer service.
  • Train and develop partners, schedule, plan, assign, and direct work in conjunction with upper management.
  • Support upper management with the review of historical data regarding sales, ads, and promotions.
  • Co-manage inventory using item management processes to ensure satisfactory in-stock levels.
  • Review profit and loss, sales, shrink, and labor data with the department manager.
  • Maintain and improve sales performance, financial results, public relations, product quality, and work standards.
  • Enforce quality control and food safety standards and ensure dated products are stocked and rotated properly.
  • Inspect prepared foods for quality by making fine judgments about aroma, flavor, taste, texture, and color.
  • Assist with slicing, weighing, packaging, and labeling lunchmeats, cheeses, and other deli products.
  • Prepare catering and delivery orders.
  • Check inventory on trucks, unload products, and ensure accuracy of inventory, product ordering, and associated paperwork.
  • Promote product sales through suggestive selling initiatives and appealing product displays.
  • Provide friendly and customer-service-oriented attitude by greeting customers, answering questions, and taking orders by phone and in person.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary working and shopping environment by adhering to Company safety procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of experience and/or higher education required.
  • Food Handler certification required.
  • Manager Food Safety certification required.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age required; partners must be 21 years of age or older to drive for Company business.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intermediate knowledge of deli department operations.
  • Intermediate knowledge of in-store ordering machine and inventory management processes.
  • Basic knowledge of scheduling software systems.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and partners in written and verbal form.

  • Ability to work with objects with sharp edges such as knives, box cutters, etc.
  • Ability to use precision and non-precision hand tools.
  • Ability to safely work well with fellow partners and promote a team environment.
  • Ability to learn new technology systems, methods, and processes.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
