About the position

The Assistant Deli Manager at Homeland Stores is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while overseeing the deli department's operations. This role involves managing staff, ensuring compliance with health regulations, and maintaining product quality and safety. The Assistant Deli Manager plays a crucial role in training new employees, scheduling labor, and managing inventory to meet customer demands in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
  • Initiate and/or make recommendations regarding hiring, firing, discipline, promotion, and evaluation of Deli Department personnel
  • Assist in orienting and training new Deli Department employees and retrain employees when necessary
  • Ensure safety of self, customers, and co-workers by understanding and practicing store safety rules
  • Understand the operation, safety requirements, and restraints of electronic cash registers, scanners, scales, and intercom systems
  • Review the perishable department Communication Board daily for updates and follow guidelines for the Sampling Program and intercom announcements
  • Prepare/organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise, unload trucks, verify merchandise against invoices, and inspect deliveries for shortages/damage
  • Develop a weekly labor schedule for all Deli Department employees for store manager approval
  • Order deli products and supplies from authorized vendors to minimize out-of-stocks while maintaining desired deli turns
  • Adhere to all county, state, and federal health regulations and instruct those supervised to comply
  • Supervise/perform/organize the cooler/freezer/preparation area for receipt of merchandise and verify quality and quantity of deliveries
  • Communicate with the store manager on problems, recommendations for change, and effectiveness of plans and merchandising decisions
  • Supervise/perform the preparation, display, and packaging of all products in the deli department
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by the store manager, including substituting for absent workers and providing products and services to customers.

Requirements

  • Above and Beyond Customer Service
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Prior cashier experience
