About the position

Assistant Department Human Resources Analyst positions perform work in a wide variety of human resources (HR) topics/programs for City departments, including sexual harassment prevention, equal employment opportunity (EEO), hiring interviews, employee performance review, discipline, threat management, family and medical leaves, meet and confer, contract negotiations, etc.; conduct and review disciplinary fact finding and/or EEO investigations; assist in the development of appointing authority interview packets; research, analyze, review, advise, and make recommendations to department management on HR policies and procedures including Civil Service Rules, Personnel Manual provisions, Administrative Regulations, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) provisions, department instructions, Federal and State laws, and legal guidelines; respond to and provide advice on a variety of HR-related questions/issues from department managers, supervisors, and employees; develop HR-related department programs; assist in the development of classification requests; develop and conduct HR-related training; and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter).
  • One year of full-time experience performing professional-level human resources work.
  • Qualifying experience must include responsibility for conducting professional-level studies in at least one of the specified functional areas.

Nice-to-haves

  • A Master's Degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Public Administration or a closely related behavioral science may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
