About the position

H2M Architects + Engineers is seeking an Assistant Department Manager with over 12 years of civil and land development design experience, particularly in private site development projects. The role involves leading multi-disciplinary design teams, managing client relationships, and overseeing project execution in a dynamic work environment. The ideal candidate will provide leadership, develop staff, and contribute to the growth of the land development team engaged in significant projects on Long Island.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multi-disciplinary design teams in executing complex Land Development projects.
  • Manage the life of the project from evaluating opportunities to ensuring technical and financial performance goals are achieved.
  • Direct and work with staff to enhance H2M's reputation for quality project design and execution.
  • Cultivate relationships with new and established Real Estate market clients, acting as the primary point of contact.
  • Attend local events to develop H2M's presence in the Real Estate market.
  • Supervise and develop staff, providing guidance on career advancement and technical knowledge.
  • Recruit and hire to build a distinguished Land Development focused team.
  • Plan staff resource utilization and assignments with other leaders in the Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer License (P.E.).
  • 12+ years of design experience focused on site development projects and associated entitlements and permitting.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a multi-discipline environment.
  • Strong client management skills and ability to foster existing client relations.
  • Good knowledge of tracking and evaluating project financial metrics.
  • Experience managing and leading teams of professionals on land development projects.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior staff and provide career coaching.
  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices of site development design.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
