About the position

The Assistant Department Manager at Big Y Foods is responsible for supporting the Department Manager in achieving sales and operational results. This role focuses on providing exceptional customer service, ensuring product quality, and fostering a positive shopping experience. The Assistant Manager will engage in hiring, training, and supervising employees while promoting a culture of excellence and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Department Manager in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting employees.
  • Supervise and direct employees, setting goals and delegating tasks using independent judgment.
  • Create and adjust weekly employee schedules while managing payroll costs.
  • Facilitate ongoing training and communication with all employees in the department.
  • Prepare trainees for management positions.
  • Encourage growth through cross-development of high-potential employees.
  • Evaluate, coach, reward, and recognize employees, celebrating their successes.
