About the position

The Assistant Director of Accessibility Services at Dartmouth College plays a crucial role in supporting students with disabilities across the Geisel School of Medicine's MD, MPH, and MS degree programs. This position ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other relevant laws, facilitating reasonable accommodations to promote equal access to educational programs and services. The role involves collaboration with students, faculty, and various support teams to foster an inclusive educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Independently work with Geisel professional degree program students, administrators, and faculty to support students with disabilities.
  • Review and analyze private disability documentation to determine disability status and necessary accommodations.
  • Consult with curricular and assessment teams to ensure accommodations do not fundamentally alter programs.
  • Provide ongoing counsel and support to students, helping them understand their disabilities and navigate their educational experience.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies related to disability services.
  • Collaborate with various support teams to implement reasonable accommodations effectively.
  • Develop and implement programs to raise disability awareness and foster an inclusive campus culture.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in disability services and assess the effectiveness of provided services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience working with students with disabilities in a higher educational setting.
  • Expertise in interpreting disability documentation and applying relevant laws such as the ADAAA and Section 504.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with graduate and professional students, particularly in health sciences.
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and their applications in clinical settings.
  • Certification in disability services or a related field.
