About the position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Development for Annual Giving & Events at Fairfield University is responsible for managing the annual giving program and events related to athletic development. This role involves strategic planning to enhance fundraising efforts, engaging with alumni, parents, and friends to promote philanthropic support, and coordinating various fundraising events. The Assistant Director will work closely with university staff and coaches to achieve fundraising goals and build a supportive community of donors.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a comprehensive athletics annual giving program to grow donor participation and philanthropic totals.
  • Maintain an active donor portfolio of Monarch Program members and execute plans for Giving Tuesday and STAGiving Day.
  • Serve as the primary development liaison to the University's head coaches and support them in revenue generation initiatives.
  • Develop and implement an effective engagement and stewardship plan for athletics annual donors.
  • Collaborate with the AEAG team to create and execute a multi-platform solicitation strategy.
  • Provide weekly financial reports to the Director of Athletic Development and Associate Director.
  • Work with 'Friends of Fairfield' athletic affinity groups to create events for donor engagement.
  • Execute special athletics-related events to assist with donor engagement and stewardship initiatives.
  • Update and maintain Raiser's Edge database with interactions and outcomes.
  • Enhance knowledge of best practices for athletic development and apply a visionary approach to campaigns.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years' experience in annual fundraising, sales, volunteer management, event planning, or related experience; athletic-related and/or higher education work experience preferred.
  • Experience soliciting and securing gift commitments of $1,000-$50,000.
  • Experience making cold calls and securing appointments with donors, prospects, and volunteers.
  • Experience creating annual giving plans and Giving Day challenges.
  • Bachelor's degree is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of college athletics, particularly Division I.
  • Experience with project management and/or marketing platforms (e.g., Wrike).
  • Knowledge of Anthology iMods or similar engagement/online giving/event registration software.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge and NXT or other CRM.
  • Knowledge of Workday.
