About the position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Army West Point Athletic Association Inc. serves as the primary contact for various athletic programs, particularly Men's Basketball. This role involves writing press releases, managing social media accounts, graphic design, and facilitating communication between the public, media, and athletic programs. The position contributes to the strategic vision of AWPAA by effectively telling the stories of cadet-athletes, coaches, and staff at the United States Military Academy.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary athletic communications liaison for designated sports, focusing on Men's Basketball.
  • Develop and compose research notes, game recaps, and feature articles to enhance media engagement.
  • Provide guidance to coaches, staff, and cadet-athletes on Public Affairs Office policies and public relations strategies.
  • Create and produce publications, including game programs and media guides, to support marketing efforts.
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of the department's social media strategy.
  • Manage social media accounts for designated teams, ensuring comprehensive coverage of activities.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media representatives to promote assigned sports.
  • Conduct interviews and facilitate communication opportunities to enhance media coverage.
  • Oversee postgame and press conferences for assigned sports programs.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Athletics Director, Creative Services on graphic design projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Experience in sports information or public relations, preferably in a collegiate or professional sports environment.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create engaging content for various platforms.
  • Proficiency in social media management and graphic design software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with video production and editing.
  • Familiarity with NCAA regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge of the Army West Point athletic programs.
