About the position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Palm Beach Atlantic University plays a crucial role in supporting the university's mission by providing leadership in athletic communications, media relations, and public relations. This position is dedicated to promoting both athletic success and academic achievement among student-athletes, ensuring effective communication across various stakeholders, and managing the university's digital content related to athletics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and support in athletic communications, media relations, and public relations for the Athletic Department.
  • Collaborate with athletic department staff, student-athletes, and gameday staff to ensure seamless communication.
  • Maintain and create content for the official athletics website and social media platforms.
  • Design and implement a social media plan to promote the athletic department.
  • Create promotional content using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Maintain historical archives of digital assets, including photos, videos, and graphics.
  • Submit nominations for awards at various levels (Conference, Regional, National).
  • Schedule and execute media days and maintain contact with athletic staff and students.
  • Fulfill gameday roles such as stat keeping, writing press releases, and public address announcing.
  • Write game recap articles and assist with online video streams of home events.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise gameday staff and student workers.
  • Manage program expenses within budgetary guidelines and adhere to NCAA and university regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 1+ year of related work experience.
  • Strong analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to change.
  • Experience in conflict management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite for content creation.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and Sunshine State Conference regulations.
