About the position

The Assistant Director, Athletic Development and External Affairs at Texas A&M International University plays a crucial role in enhancing the fundraising efforts for the athletics department. Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for assisting Development Officers and Institutional Advancement in securing philanthropic support specifically for athletics. The role involves participating in various fundraising activities, which include identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with individual major donors and prospects, with a strong emphasis on athletics-related initiatives. The Assistant Director will effectively utilize communication and relationship-building strategies to meet the diverse fundraising needs of the institution. In this position, the Assistant Director will collaborate closely with coaches and staff to identify priority fundraising needs that will be presented to the Director of Athletics for approval. Under the guidance of the Director of Athletics and the AVP-Finance and Administration, the incumbent will develop and format templates for specific events, sponsorships, and fan club/booster/supporter organizations, ensuring compliance with Texas A&M University System (TAMUS), Texas A&M International University (TAMIU), NCAA, and Lone Star Conference rules. The Assistant Director will also serve as a liaison with the Dustdevil Club and its advisory board, as well as other programs that promote athletic event participation. The role requires the development of a comprehensive athletic public relations and fundraising program, identifying and cultivating major gift prospects in collaboration with the Development Director and senior advancement team. The Assistant Director will be responsible for drafting contracts, memoranda, and agreements related to athletic development efforts, while aggressively pursuing major gifts and ensuring appropriate recognition for donors. Building and maintaining positive relationships with individuals both within and outside the university community is essential. Additionally, the Assistant Director will manage all media advertising for radio, print, and TV, oversee athletic publications, and manage the digital marketing budget. The position also involves planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating effective special events, including summer camps, sports clinics, and the athletics banquet. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field.
  • Six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of NCAA bylaws and conference regulations.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and computer skills, including web page manipulation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with the internal/external community and media.
  • Strong long-term planning skills.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
