The Assistant Director, Career Coaching at the University of Miami Herbert Business School is a pivotal role designed to provide comprehensive career-related services and employment assistance programming for graduate students. This position supports the mission of the Unanue Graduate Career Advancement Center by offering guidance in personal and professional development tailored to the needs of students in the assigned programs. The Assistant Director will engage in various activities aimed at enhancing the career prospects of students and alumni, ensuring they are well-prepared for the job market. In this role, the Assistant Director will deliver individual career and professional development coaching, focusing on essential areas such as career planning, job searches, self-assessment, resume and cover letter reviews, interview preparation, and professional skills development. The Assistant Director will document coaching sessions meticulously, including notes, outcomes, and follow-up assignments, to track progress and ensure accountability. Outreach functions will be performed with diverse groups, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employer recruiters, to foster engagement in career-related activities and opportunities. The Assistant Director will also partner with employers to create full-time, internship, or co-op opportunities for students, maintaining a current understanding of recruiting trends, industry characteristics, job specifications, and employer culture. This role involves assisting with the collection and reporting of data and statistics for various annual reports, leveraging this information to help the department achieve its student employment goals. Additionally, the Assistant Director will teach two sections of Management Career courses each semester, utilizing uniformly-created lesson plans and instructional technology to create an engaging learning environment. The position may require teaching other career-related courses and workshops as needed, which could occur outside of regular working hours. The Assistant Director will also be expected to work some evenings and weekends for career-related events and may need to travel periodically to conferences and workshops. This position is dynamic and requires a proactive approach to career coaching, with a focus on building relationships with students and enhancing their career readiness.
