About the position

The Assistant Director, Career Coaching at the University of Miami Herbert Business School is responsible for providing career-related services and employment assistance programming for graduate students. This role supports the mission of the Unanue Graduate Career Advancement Center by offering guidance in personal and professional development, facilitating career planning, and enhancing job search skills for students and alumni.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual career and professional development coaching to graduate business students and alumni regarding career planning and job searches.
  • Documents coaching sessions in department system including notes, outcomes, and follow-up assignments.
  • Performs outreach functions with groups such as students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employer recruiters to engage in career-related activities.
  • Partners with employers to develop full-time, internship, or co-op opportunities for students.
  • Maintains current knowledge of recruiting trends, industry characteristics, job specifications/requirements, and employer culture.
  • Assists with the collection and reporting of information, statistics, and data for various annual reports.
  • Leverages data to help the department achieve student employment goals.
  • Teaches two sections of Management Career courses per semester using uniformly-created lesson plans and learning management systems.
  • Utilizes career coaching skills to build relationships with students through assignment feedback and in-class activities.
  • Demonstrates technology proficiency and maintains current career platform tools to track engagement and outcomes.
  • Teaches other career-related courses and workshops as needed, which may occur outside normal work hours.
  • Works some evening and weekend hours for career-related events and travels to conferences and workshops.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field required; MBA/MS degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in corporate/industry, recruiting, or career coaching; finance, marketing, or higher education experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Strong presentation and follow-up skills required.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey empathy.
  • Energetic self-starter with a creative approach to strengthening industry connections.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks with varied deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and career technology platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of data-driven decision making, including quantitative analytics preferred.
  • Multilingual skills are a bonus.
