About the position

The Assistant Director of Controls and Utilities at UTHealth Houston is responsible for overseeing campus-wide operations related to the Building Automation System (BAS). This role involves managing a team that handles the maintenance, repair, installation, testing, and calibration of BAS, as well as HVAC controls in various environments. The Assistant Director collaborates with maintenance supervisors and project management to develop strategies for environmental comfort and utility cost management, while also implementing energy management and sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of the controls and utilities team, including staffing, scheduling, training, and performance reviews.
  • Oversee campus-wide temperature, odor, preventive maintenance, and HVAC-related calls through the CMMS.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Utilities and Controls with payroll and operations budget management.
  • Manage processes for maintaining campus-wide digital controls and facility automation systems.
  • Review and approve all BAS-related purchases, including service calls and upgrades.
  • Assist facilities projects by providing feedback on controls specifications and mechanical drawings.
  • Attend Facility Advisory Counsel meetings and other design meetings.
  • Assist with Energy Conservation initiatives by performing energy audits and maintaining energy data points.
  • Manage Human Resources activities including recruiting, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Controls, or a related field.
  • 6 years of experience with Building Automation and controls.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Johnson Controls software.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
