About the position

The Assistant Director will join a vibrant and growing team, committed to ensuring outstanding in-classroom education and care for young children and their families in the South End. The person in this role will be responsible for day-to-day operations of the early childhood education program (ECE), including but not limited to planning daily and weekly schedules, supervising staff and regular check ins, curriculum development, supporting enrollment and providing quality services to families in compliance with USES policies, and local and state regulations. This role is a great opportunity for an experienced childcare professional to directly supervise a staff of mission-driven individuals and to receive coaching and development towards future leadership roles. The ECE Assistant Director reports to the Director of Youth and Family Mobility Programming.

Responsibilities

  • Plan daily and weekly schedules for the early childhood education program.
  • Supervise staff and conduct regular check-ins.
  • Develop curriculum and support enrollment.
  • Provide quality services to families in compliance with USES policies and local/state regulations.
  • Ensure high quality educational programming is implemented by educators.
  • Manage details and requirements for state licensing regulations, BON tracking, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Coordinate parent conferences and ensure assessments of children are completed as per DEEC guidelines.
  • Collect and use data through assessments for continuous improvement.
  • Serve as coach, mentor, and supervisor to staff, volunteers, and interns.
  • Conduct outreach to build relationships with prospective and current families.
  • Support recruiting efforts, interviewing, hiring, and orienting new team members.
  • Support the ECE program as it expands into new initiatives.

Requirements

  • Commitment to USES's mission, vision, and values.
  • Lead Teacher certification required; DEEC Director II certification preferred.
  • Five+ years of experience working with children 0-5, including experience as a lead teacher or Assistant Director.
  • Experience in supervising and developing professional skills in staff.
  • Flexibility with scheduling, including availability to open and close the center.
  • Energetic and positive attitude with collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish or a second language preferred.
