About the position

The Assistant Director, Employee Relations and Title IX at Tyler Junior College is a full-time position responsible for overseeing employee relations, governance, and Title IX compliance. This role involves conducting investigations related to employee and student complaints, managing employee relations staff, and ensuring compliance with various laws and regulations. The Assistant Director will also develop and conduct training, maintain confidential case files, and represent the college in administrative hearings.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations in response to employee and student Title IX complaints.
  • Conduct alternative dispute resolution, mediation, and counseling for employees.
  • Provide assistance to outside counsel regarding employment issues, including preparing documentation and case files.
  • Investigate grievances related to employment, race, gender, sexual harassment, or hostile work environment.
  • Write detailed reports with outcomes of investigations to all involved parties.
  • Maintain confidential case files and prepare accurate, timely written investigation reports.
  • Determine whether college policies or procedures have been violated, including EEO, OCR, DOL, ADA, and Title IX.
  • Assist with unemployment actions and personnel decisions for the college.
  • Assist with Public Information Act requests as needed.
  • Assist with selection of departmental software and records retention strategy.
  • Represent the department at meetings and advise administration on policy development and implementation.
  • Responsible for compliance training for the College including EEO, OCR, DOL, and Title IX.
  • Develop and conduct training on employee rights, responsibilities, and handling difficult conversations.
  • Manage Employee Relations staff including hiring, coaching, counseling, and developing employees.
  • Represent the college in administrative hearings or court proceedings.
  • Develop close working relationships with stakeholders within and outside the campus community.
  • Coordinate updates and maintain the Board Policy Manual; write and update policies and procedures.
  • Assist managers with disciplinary meetings and provide guidance for employee relations matters.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee information and disciplinary matters.
  • Participate in the Minors on Campus taskforce and implement related policies.
  • Work closely with campus police in investigations involving Title IX issues.
  • Sit on the Risk Management committee and track departmental objectives for annual reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in human resource management or business management.
  • Three years of direct experience in employee relations, Title IX, or a closely related field.
  • Experience managing others is strongly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current knowledge of Texas employment law preferred.
  • SHRM or HRCI Certification.
