About the position

The Assistant Director, Fan Engagement of Sports Marketing at Hampton University is a pivotal role within the Athletics department, reporting directly to the Assistant Athletic Director for Fan Engagement, Sports Marketing, and Promotions. This position is responsible for supporting the execution of comprehensive marketing strategies aimed at enhancing the visibility and attendance of Hampton Pirates Athletics events. The Assistant Director will work independently to develop, coordinate, and implement various initiatives that contribute to an engaging game day experience, effective digital marketing, and impactful community outreach programs. In this role, the Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing to devise strategies that meet attendance and fan development goals. Regular communication with external units and coaching staffs is essential to maximize collaboration and ensure that marketing efforts align with the overall objectives of the Athletics department. The Assistant Director will lead marketing initiatives specifically for Women's Basketball, overseeing game day experiences and ticket sales efforts. Additionally, the Assistant Director will work alongside the Director of Marketing to manage football tailgate sales and operations, ensuring a seamless experience for fans. The role also involves assisting with digital and social media marketing campaigns across various platforms, including the university's website, email newsletters, and social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Partnering with sales and service staff on community ticket programs, such as Youth Basketball and Elementary/Middle School rewards programs, is also a key responsibility. The Assistant Director is expected to embody the core values of Hampton University, which include integrity, respect, decency, dignity, and responsibility, while performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy to reach attendance and fan development goals in collaboration with the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing.
  • Communicate regularly with external units and coaching staffs to maximize collaboration.
  • Lead marketing, game day experience, and ticket sales initiatives for Women's Basketball.
  • Manage football tailgate sales and operations in partnership with the Director of Marketing.
  • Assist with digital and social media marketing campaigns across various platforms.
  • Partner with sales and service staff on community ticket programs, including Youth Basketball and rewards programs.
  • Embody the core values of Hampton University in all professional interactions and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or sports management.
  • 2+ years of previous relevant experience in marketing, ticket sales, and/or fan experience.
  • Extensive functional knowledge of marketing principles and practices.
  • Experience collaborating with coaches and serving student athletes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Presentation, planning, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations with a history of compliance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, particularly Photoshop and Premiere.
  • Experience leading and supervising the work of junior staff and interns.
  • Demonstrated commitment to innovation and creativity.
  • Ability to think critically about new ideas that support strategic plan development and execution.
