About the position

The Assistant Director for Campus Visits at SMU will play a pivotal role in shaping the admission visit experience for prospective students and their families. This position is integral to the undergraduate recruitment team, focusing on creating, coordinating, and implementing daily visit opportunities that align with the University's branding and effectively support its enrollment goals. The Assistant Director will oversee a team of student staff at the undergraduate admission welcome desk, ensuring that visitors receive exceptional front-line customer service from the moment they register for a visit until follow-up communications post-visit. In addition to managing the visit experience, the Assistant Director will also have a small recruitment territory, advising prospective students, parents, and high school counselors on academic and co-curricular options available at SMU. This role requires frequent presentations both on and off campus, necessitating limited local travel. The Assistant Director will be responsible for developing and coordinating communications and materials for campus visitors, primarily utilizing the admission CRM system SLATE. Input into the design of printed materials for visit programs and the overall undergraduate recruitment process will also be part of the responsibilities. Regular reporting on the success and effectiveness of daily visit opportunities will be required, with assessments based on quantitative and empirical evidence to make necessary adjustments to the program. The Assistant Director will also represent SMU at meetings and conferences, staying informed about trends and issues in Undergraduate Admission and campus visits, thereby contributing to the broader educational community.

Responsibilities

  • Create, coordinate, and implement daily visit opportunities that reflect the University's message and brand.
  • Supervise a team of students who staff the undergraduate admission welcome desk.
  • Advise prospective students, parents, and high school counselors on academic and co-curricular options at SMU.
  • Develop and coordinate communications and materials for campus visitors through the admission CRM system SLATE.
  • Provide regular reports on the success and effectiveness of daily visit opportunities to the Dean and Director of Recruitment.
  • Attend meetings and conferences to stay abreast of Undergraduate Admission and campus visit issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of work experience is required.
  • Experience recruiting for a four-year residential liberal arts and sciences university/college or a two-year non-profit college is a plus.
  • History of supervising students in an office or as an organization advisor is desired.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving history is required.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Basic understanding of HTML is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong written communication skills are required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems and devise solutions are necessary.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills are essential.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to give presentations in Spanish and converse with applicants and prospects whose first language is Spanish is preferred.
