About the position

The Assistant Director for Information Literacy at Dean College plays a crucial role in supporting the Library Learning Commons through professional and administrative oversight. This position involves strategic planning, implementing information literacy initiatives, and acting as the Director's proxy when necessary. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing and assessing information literacy programming, coordinating staff training, and maintaining statistical records of library usage, while also managing budgets and overseeing collection development.

Responsibilities

  • Support and act on behalf of the Director in developing and implementing the library's strategic plan, goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee all aspects of information literacy and instruction, including program planning, implementation, assessment, and collaboration with faculty.
  • Assist with management and monitoring of the non-personnel budget, including expenditures for collections, supplies, and professional development.
  • Lead collection development, ensuring quality, currency, and relevance, and make purchasing recommendations.
  • Compile, maintain, and report statistical information related to library usage, programs, and services.
  • Promote library services and resources, engaging in campus marketing and advocacy efforts.
  • Address patron issues at the circulation desk, maintaining service standards for electronic and print resources, including interlibrary loan processes.
  • Supervise and provide operational oversight for assigned information literacy staff, interns, and work-study students, including onboarding, training, and scheduling.
  • Lead planning, implementation, and assessment of information literacy and instructional activities, establishing goals, strategies, and coordinating with faculty.
  • Provide and support information literacy instruction, both in classrooms and individually, developing materials such as tutorials and research guides.
  • Oversee management and support for citation management software, research tools, and emerging instructional technologies, including faculty professional development on best practices.
  • Maintain the library's print and digital collections, evaluating and updating materials to ensure quality and relevance.
  • Manage interlibrary loan requests, collection serviceability, and circulation notices, assisting patrons with resources, technology tools, and related equipment as needed.

Requirements

  • Master of Library and Information Science or equivalent degree required.
  • Proficient in library management and time management.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of library technology, email, and calendaring applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities and manage frequent interruptions effectively.
  • Ability to perform standard library duties, such as bending and stretching for processing materials.
  • Capability to lift 25-30 lbs.
  • Ability to sit and use a computer workstation, including keyboarding, for extended periods.
