About the position

Brandeis University is delighted to announce a career opportunity as the Assistant Director (AD) in Institutional Research. This position is integral to the university's mission, focusing on overseeing and actively engaging in institutional research projects that respond to the needs of the university. The AD will serve as a mentor and role model for all Institutional Research (IR) staff, guiding them in identifying, designing, and executing research projects that transform raw data into actionable insights. This role requires the creation and management of complex data sets sourced from both internal and external data, ensuring the quality and sustainability of processes within the IR department. The Assistant Director will collaborate closely with the director to identify, design, and execute various research projects, including surveys and data analyses, tailored to institutional needs and client requests from departments such as admissions, student affairs, and facilities. The AD will support academic and administrative leadership by conducting exploratory analyses and presenting quantitative and qualitative findings, employing both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Additionally, the AD will assist in project management, ensuring that the IR team meets external reporting deadlines and responds promptly to internal analysis requests. Mentorship is a key component of this role, as the AD will guide others in developing efficient and repeatable processes to address ongoing data requests. The AD will also contribute to the development of an annual schedule of IR deliverables for the university community, ensuring that the department remains proactive and responsive to the evolving needs of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the director to identify, design, and execute research projects in response to institutional needs and client requests.
  • Supports academic and administrative leadership in exploratory analysis with reports and presentations of quantitative and qualitative analytical findings.
  • Ensures that IR meets external reporting deadlines and responds to requests for internal analyses in a timely manner.
  • Provides mentoring to others in creating efficient and repeatable processes for data requests.
  • Assists in the development of an annual schedule of IR deliverables to the university community.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree preferred; Master's degree required.
  • 5-8 years of related work experience in Institutional Research or equivalent.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing through various means.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Graduate degree in a field emphasizing quantitative research methods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with statistical software and data analysis tools.
