About the position

The Assistant Director of Major Gifts, Arts and Sciences, plays a crucial role in executing interdisciplinary fundraising strategies across various colleges within the university. This position involves collaborating with faculty and advancement staff to identify and cultivate relationships with prospective donors, managing a portfolio of over 120 potential major gift donors, and soliciting significant contributions ranging from $100K to $1M+. The role requires regular travel to key regions for donor engagement and collaboration with various advancement teams to meet fundraising goals.

Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to major gifts fundraising efforts for CSSH, COS, CAMD, and NUSL.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and build relationships with alumni, parents, and friends.
  • Strategize with faculty and colleagues on next steps with prospects.
  • Travel as needed to build relationships with existing volunteers, prospects, and donors.
  • Solicit gifts in the $100K - $1M+ range.
  • Work with the Assistant Vice President and other advancement teams to meet development goals.
  • Advise faculty and fundraising colleagues on alumni and parent interests.
  • Partner with fundraising colleagues to develop interdisciplinary strategies for donor support.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of professional experience in fundraising, with at least 2 years of success in soliciting and closing six- and seven-figure gifts.
  • Experience in cultivating and soliciting alumni, parents, and friends, maintaining positive donor relationships.
  • Superior communication skills and a collaborative, entrepreneurial approach.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Data- and metric-driven mindset.
  • Understanding of Northeastern University's mission.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and work some evenings and weekends.
  • BA/BS degree required.
