About the position

The Assistant Director of Marketing & Business Development is a pivotal role responsible for assisting in the creation, development, and implementation of comprehensive revenue generation strategies and strategic marketing direction for The Shops at Crystals. This position aims to meet corporate property business and marketing objectives, ensuring that the shopping center remains competitive and appealing to both retailers and consumers. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Marketing & Business Development (DMBD) to identify and capitalize on revenue opportunities through strategic positioning of mall assets, media assets, and programming. This role requires a proactive approach to generating prospective clients in local markets through various outreach methods, including cold calling and networking. In addition to revenue generation, the Assistant Director will be responsible for reviewing and understanding the marketing budget and financial reports, supporting the administrative elements of sponsorship and event deals, and maintaining solid relationships with partners and sponsors. The role also involves managing sales reporting, understanding center sales and traffic trends, and promoting platform programs effectively. The Assistant Director will participate in the Manager on Duty rotation, attend staff meetings, and uphold relevant management responsibilities, ensuring that all marketing initiatives align with the overall business strategy. The position requires strong communication skills, both oral and written, as well as exceptional negotiating abilities. The Assistant Director will assist in creating retailer correspondence and maintaining an up-to-date media contact list, working collaboratively with the DMBD to convey essential sales and market-related information to the center's leasing representative. This role is crucial for fostering a dynamic marketing environment that supports the growth and success of The Shops at Crystals.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, create, and sell revenue opportunities through strategic positioning of mall assets, media assets, and mall programming.
  • Generate prospective clients in local markets through cold calling, networking, and targeted outreach plans.
  • Review and understand the marketing budget, financials, and related reports.
  • Support administrative elements and approvals of sponsorship/event deals including contracting, deal entry, and payment collection.
  • Assist in developing ongoing relationships with partners and sponsors to address performance and future growth potential.
  • Complete all associated sales reporting including inventory verification and management of individual inventory requests.
  • Review and understand center sales and traffic trends and reports.
  • Promote and implement platform programs in a professional and timely manner and measure results.
  • Manage the local production and use of on-mall collateral and materials.
  • Participate in Manager on Duty rotation and attend staff meetings.
  • Assist in writing and creating retailer correspondence and communications.
  • Maintain an up-to-date media contact list and build a network of media contacts.
  • Convey sales and market-related information to the center's leasing representative.
  • Assist DMBD with coordinating tenant and partner meetings.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree with emphasis in marketing or business.
  • 3 years of experience in sales, sponsorship, strategic marketing, event management, and budgeting.
  • Knowledge of retail management, marketing, and advertising, and working knowledge of the media industry.
  • Exceptional negotiating skills.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Sound fiscal management and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent word processing, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules including weekends and evenings.
  • Some overnight travel required.
