About the position

The Assistant Director Marketing Cloud Technical Specialist at Texas Tech University plays a crucial role in the management and coordination of specialized projects within the Marketing and Communications department. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and administrative skills to effectively utilize Salesforce and Marketing Cloud for digital communications. The individual will be responsible for configuring and maintaining data systems to meet the university's business needs, ensuring compliance with policies, and enhancing the overall effectiveness of marketing strategies. In this role, the Assistant Director will leverage their knowledge of automation processes, SQL queries, HTML, and AMPscript to build solutions that facilitate targeted communication and personalized marketing efforts. The position involves analyzing data to improve performance metrics, troubleshooting system issues, and managing email deliverability and subscription management. The Assistant Director will also be tasked with developing documentation and a knowledge base of current processes, as well as performing routine maintenance for all business units within Marketing Cloud. The successful candidate will work under general supervision, with their performance evaluated based on the results obtained from their initiatives. This role is integral to the university's mission of delivering high-quality communications that effectively convey the story of Texas Tech University to its diverse audience.

Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain Marketing Cloud and CRM data according to defined priorities and strategies.
  • Provide expertise in Marketing Cloud automation processes, SQL queries, HTML, and AMPscript.
  • Manage email deliverability, database hygiene, subscription management, and compliance with university policies.
  • Build solutions and processes for targeting, personalization, configuration, strategy, and reporting.
  • Analyze data from analytics to implement improvements in performance and deliverability.
  • Report on and troubleshoot system outages, failed sends, automation errors, and other anomalies.
  • Monitor send logs in Marketing Cloud for patterns, errors, and analytic trends.
  • Develop testing and deployment strategies and processes.
  • Create documentation and a knowledge base of current processes.
  • Perform routine maintenance and upkeep for all business units in Marketing Cloud.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in the area of specialization or closely related field.
  • Three years of related administrative and technical experience.
  • Experience using a digital marketing platform such as Marketing Cloud.
  • Experience using and managing a CRM system such as Salesforce.
  • Strong communication skills including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • High-level attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of higher education and academia.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of SQL, AMPscript, and HTML.
  • Knowledge of email marketing best practices (preferably for nonprofits).
  • Experience using project management software.
  • Experience building and implementing email campaigns using Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, and drag-and-drop email campaign builders.
