About the position

The Assistant Director of Marketing, Sales & Fan Experience at UMass Amherst plays a crucial role in overseeing the athletic sales, marketing, and promotions unit. This position focuses on enhancing attendance and revenue for UMass athletic events, particularly in key sports such as football, men's basketball, women's basketball, ice hockey, and men's lacrosse. The role involves creating and implementing comprehensive marketing strategies, managing game day operations, and ensuring compliance with NCAA and university regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Assistant Athletics Director in executing the Department sales plan to increase attendance and generate ticket revenue.
  • Serve as a liaison with Student Affairs and Campus Life for student attendance initiatives.
  • Coordinate with third-party media rights holders for sponsorship activation activities.
  • Establish community relationships to support group sales programs.
  • Create and execute marketing strategies to maximize ticket sales for athletic contests.
  • Develop and implement advertising plans to increase individual ticket sales.
  • Craft campus messaging campaigns to boost student attendance.
  • Oversee the creative aspects of advertising campaigns and work with external sources.
  • Manage distribution plans for promotional materials to enhance attendance and revenue.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Creative Services for website and social media promotion.
  • Direct game operations and entertainment for assigned athletic events.
  • Create scripts for in-game activities and serve as Game Director.
  • Supervise hiring and direction of game day video board staff.
  • Oversee marketing and sales video functions, ensuring compliance with standards.
  • Coordinate game day logistics and manage game day staff.
  • Work with promotional companies for game day giveaways.
  • Coordinate pre-game and halftime events, supervising student interns.
  • Manage the mascot program, including hiring and training performers.
  • Participate in the creation and fulfillment of group sales plans and promotional materials.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, university, and federal regulations regarding financial data and donor information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in sports management, athletic administration, business administration, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum two years' relevant experience in marketing or sales.
  • Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work a varied schedule including nights and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Division I intercollegiate marketing or sales with a professional sports organization.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
