About the position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Accounting and Reporting at the University of Washington plays a crucial role in managing the financial operations and reporting functions within the Intercollegiate Athletics department. This position is responsible for ensuring data integrity, compliance with accounting standards, and providing financial analysis to support decision-making processes. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance financial procedures and reporting accuracy, ultimately contributing to the department's mission of enriching student-athlete experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve monthly and annual accounting entries.
  • Record and reconcile all balance sheet accounts, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, deferred income, and fund transfers.
  • Ensure data integrity for the Intercollegiate Athletics department.
  • Work with the ICA Compliance Office to prepare, monitor, and reconcile annual scholarship and financial aid related expenses.
  • Monitor endowment usage and spending as needed.
  • Review open encumbrances to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Submit interdepartmental budget charges and journal vouchers.
  • Review monthly reconciliations and postings of Ticket Office tickets and revenue.
  • Reconcile ticket sales reports from the Ticket Office and other reports provided by the University.
  • Perform variance analysis as needed.
  • Complete the annual Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA) Survey and NCAA Revenue and Expense report.
  • Analyze internal financial accounts and assign them into applicable reporting categories.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies to ensure final reports reflect the Department's audited financial statements accurately.
  • Analyze and develop various financial reports for the Chief Financial Officer and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and present financial recommendations based on analysis.
  • Identify and recommend methods of improving accounting procedures and services.
  • Assist in the development of the annual financial budget and maintain the budget database.
  • Provide assistance with financial-related audit issues and produce worksheets for financial year-end audit.
  • Direct and manage the process for Athletic Department accounts receivable transactions.
  • Monitor and reconcile accounts receivable records to ensure compliance with policies.
  • Oversee ICA taxable fringe benefit categories and manage ICA's inventory and asset tagging program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Sport Management or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in accounting, processing journal entries, financial reports, and data analysis.
  • Experience using financial databases and accounting software.
  • Knowledge of GAAP accounting rules and standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in accounting or CPA.
  • Knowledge of UW policies, regulations, and institutional/state accounting and/or budget procedures.
  • Experience working in a university, athletic department, or professional sports organization.
  • Experience with Workday Finance or similar system.
