About the position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at Florida State University is a full-time faculty position responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate-level students in music education, conducting the FSU Concert Band, and assisting in the planning and instruction of the Marching Chiefs and Seminole Sound Athletic Pep Band. Responsibilities

  • Teaches undergraduate and graduate-level students in music education.
  • Assists in planning and instruction for the Florida State University Marching Chiefs and Seminole Sound Athletic Pep Band.
  • Serves as the primary conductor of the FSU Concert Band.
  • Serves on doctoral and master's committees and juries.
  • Participates in university and professional service activities nationally and internationally.

Requirements

  • Completed a doctoral degree at the time of appointment or equivalent teaching experience and creative activity.
  • Record of successful university-level teaching experience and proven artistry as a professional conductor.
  • Strong commitment to the recruitment of outstanding students.
  • Proven commitment to creating an inclusive environment that engages students from diverse backgrounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated record of excellence in collegiate-level athletic band pedagogy, programming, and administration.
  • Experience in drill design creation and teaching.
  • Coursework in marching band techniques.
