About the position

The University of Southern Indiana is seeking an Assistant Director of Athletic Communications to join its team. This position is pivotal in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the university's athletic programs through effective communication and creative content production. The Assistant Director will report directly to the Director of Athletics Communications and will be responsible for overseeing the production of ESPN+ broadcasts, creating audio/visual content for the Screaming Eagles Arena, and providing other creative services necessary for the athletics department. The successful candidate will be instrumental in producing live events and developing engaging video and still content that aims to boost awareness, attendance, and revenue for the university's athletic programs. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in video content creation, digital marketing, and creative services. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. This role is crucial for building the athletics department's reputation and audience by delivering high-quality video content and executing live events that captivate and excite fans. In this role, the Assistant Director will oversee USI's live video production on ESPN+, which includes pre-production and directing live-streamed events. The position also involves hiring, training, and evaluating student video production staff responsible for various production roles during games. Collaboration with the Assistant Athletics Director for Development and the Director of Athletics Marketing and Fan Engagement is essential to develop and implement a comprehensive digital marketing and creative services plan that promotes the brand of USI and its athletics programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee USI's live video production on ESPN+, including pre-production and directing live-streamed events.
  • Hire, train, and evaluate student video production staff responsible for directing, producing, camera operation, graphics, and replay duties in-game.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Athletics Director for Development and Director of Athletics Marketing and Fan Engagement to develop and implement a comprehensive digital marketing and creative services plan.
  • Produce creative video content for the athletic department, including highlight reels and video interviews, and distribute content via USIScreamingEagles and social media.
  • Create fan engagement videos and animated graphic content for in-venue videoboards, and occasionally shoot photos.
  • Develop and coordinate an internship program with the School of Liberal Arts for USI students in creative content and digital marketing.
  • Assist in developing and executing the digital and social media strategy for the athletics department and sport programs.
  • Design branded elements for use in digital mediums.
  • Coordinate special events by providing video support, including content for programs/events, interviews, and highlights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in sports communication or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in live and recorded athletic video production, with graduate assistant or undergraduate experience considered.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, camera operations, staging, lighting, audio recording, and video shoot formatting.
  • Proficiency in various video production and editing software programs.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices for multimedia applications.
  • Basic knowledge of collegiate athletic media relations practices and operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Premiere and After Effects.
  • Experience with video cameras.
  • Strong communication skills and considerable initiative, creativity, and independence.
