About the position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at the University of Idaho is responsible for ensuring effective internal and external communication, branding, and messaging for the athletic department. This role involves leading and collaborating on communication efforts to enhance the reputation of the university and its athletic programs through strategic and creative messaging. The position requires working closely with team members and the University Communications and Marketing department to create impactful communications that support the university's teaching and research mission.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit a variety of content in digital and print formats.
  • Maintain the project or effort website, social media presence, and online communications.
  • Collaborate on data collection for a variety of reports.
  • Assist with day-to-day office operations.
  • Provide consultation and writing support to department leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, or Public Relations; two additional years of experience may substitute for an Associate's Degree.
  • One year of athletics communications or journalism experience.
  • Editing and writing business correspondence using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials.
  • Experience working in a customer service-oriented team environment to accomplish shared goals.
  • Ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously that require a high degree of attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in college athletics.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Photography, videography, graphic design, and other creative abilities and experience.
  • Using AP style in writing.
  • Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
