About the position

Long Island University (LIU), an NCAA DI institution, is seeking an Assistant Director of Athletic Operations. This position is a vital part of the LIU Athletics Operations team, responsible for managing the day-to-day operations for designated sports within the university's athletic department. The Assistant Director will work under the general direction of the Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Operations, assisting in the planning, preparation, and execution of game and event operations, as well as providing daily support for various athletic facilities. The role involves a variety of responsibilities, including assisting with event and game management for all home events and sports. The Assistant Director will perform necessary duties as the primary or secondary event manager during home athletic events, coordinating venue setup and conversions. Daily support for the operation and upkeep of athletic facilities is also a key responsibility, which includes managing work orders and communicating effectively with coaches and university facilities staff. In addition to these operational tasks, the Assistant Director will supervise, train, and assign work to student game staff, assist in staging events, and coordinate the use of athletic facilities for both university and non-departmental organizations. The position requires representing LIU Athletics to other universities and external agencies, establishing and enforcing operating procedures, and ensuring compliance with all applicable university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. The Assistant Director will also assist in managing post-season home athletic tournaments and championships, working closely with coaches and university facility managers to ensure successful event management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the event/game management responsibilities for all home events/sports.
  • Perform all necessary responsibilities as the primary or secondary event manager during home athletic events.
  • Coordinate venue setup and conversions.
  • Provide daily support for the operation and upkeep of the various athletic facilities, including work order management/tracking and communication with coaches and University facilities staff.
  • Assist with various facility projects and other special projects as assigned.
  • Supervise, train and assign work to student game staff.
  • Assist in staging events and coordinating the use of all athletic facilities including University and non-departmental organizations, when feasible.
  • Represent LIU Athletics to other universities, external offices and agencies.
  • Establish and enforce operating procedures; recommend and implement improvements to game/event operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Assist in the event management of post season home athletic tournaments and championships.
  • Work and communicate effectively with coaches on various issues and event management.
  • Work with and communicate effectively with university facility and public safety managers for event management set-ups, maintenance, and facilities staff usage.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher)
  • One-to-two years of full-time experience working in collegiate or professional Athletic operations.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to plan, establish priorities and successfully manage multiple priority projects.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to academic and athletic success.
  • Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
  • Dedication and motivation to initiate, lead and support value added projects.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, with a positive demeanor.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and designated conference rules and compliance practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two-to-Four years of full-time experience working in collegiate or professional Athletic Business operations.
