About the position

The Assistant Director of Career Coaching and Education - Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University plays a vital role in supporting undergraduate and master's students, as well as recent alumni, in their career development journey. This part-time position involves providing individual and group career coaching, developing career-focused resources, and fostering relationships with various departments to enhance the career readiness of students. The role is part of the Stanford Career Education team, which emphasizes equity, inclusion, and meaningful career pathways for students in the Humanities and Sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide both in-person and virtual career coaching and education to undergraduate and master's students and recent alumni.
  • Coach students and alumni on career education topics, including career exploration, networking, job search processes, and interviewing.
  • Integrate student development models and career theories into coaching interactions.
  • Utilize relevant career development resources and tools during coaching sessions.
  • Engage in research to understand industry trends affecting students and alumni.
  • Develop and deliver inclusive workshops and programs addressing career needs.
  • Collaborate with CareerEd staff to facilitate programming for students and alumni.
  • Create accessible resources such as presentations and webinars to support student engagement.
  • Analyze participation data to inform program enhancements.
  • Build relationships with the wider community of student support at Stanford.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, advising, or teaching in educational settings.
  • Ability to cultivate effective working relationships within a complex organization.
  • Experience in developing and executing programs and facilitating group engagements.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Multicultural awareness and competence.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of key career issues for Humanities and Sciences students.
  • Experience with career services software like Handshake and PeopleGrove.
