About the position

The Assistant Director position at Arizona State University is a leadership role within the Career Services department, specifically focused on enhancing career readiness for students in the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. This position is responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives that support the career and professional development of creative students, ensuring they are well-prepared for post-graduation opportunities. The Assistant Director will collaborate with various stakeholders, including academic departments and industry partners, to create tailored career resources and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a team of Creative Career Peers (student employees).
  • Collaborate with academic departments to develop customized career and professional development classes and events.
  • Advise students and alumni on career decision-making and job search strategies.
  • Design creative career development modules for integration into HIDA course curriculum.
  • Develop programming for ASU students in Los Angeles in collaboration with California staff.
  • Create content for students and alumni in the gig economy.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate Creative Career Peers.
  • Plan and lead weekly meetings and training sessions for Creative Career Peers.
  • Support and facilitate career preparation events led by Creative Career Peers.
  • Work with HIDA leadership to scale career readiness initiatives and identify industry partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Six years of related administrative experience, including three years of supervisory experience, or ten years of related experience with three years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in student services or career center operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of arts and design fields.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in technology systems including Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Slack, PeopleSoft, and Handshake.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in an arts or design discipline or related field.
  • Experience leading a service department in career services or student affairs.
  • Experience maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of career development theory and practice.
