About the position

The Assistant Director of Creative Video at Colorado State University (CSU) plays a pivotal role in conceptualizing, executing, and delivering creative video content that enhances the brand of Colorado State Athletics. This position requires a blend of creativity, technical skills, and collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders to capture compelling stories that resonate with fans and recruits alike. The individual will be responsible for producing a wide range of video content, including commercials, highlight reels, and social media clips, while also ensuring that the content aligns with NCAA regulations and the university's standards of compliance. In addition to content creation, the Assistant Director will actively participate in the game-day atmosphere, contributing to fan engagement through effective storytelling. The role involves working closely with the Director of Creative Video to develop workflows that ensure timely production of content, as well as attending live events to gather footage and produce in-game social media content. The Assistant Director will also be involved in administrative tasks, including attending departmental meetings and supervising student employees and freelancers. This position is fully in-office and requires a commitment to maintaining technical knowledge through ongoing professional development. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to adapt to the fast-paced nature of the video production industry. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least one year of experience in video production are required, with a preference for candidates who have experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports.

Responsibilities

  • Shooting video content for commercials, highlight videos, features, previews, recaps, and other editing responsibilities.
  • Creating video content for various social media platforms, including multimedia audio/video, animation, graphics, and sponsor content.
  • Traveling with teams to gather appropriate content for future productions when applicable.
  • Attending live events to produce social content in-game.
  • Assisting in the development of event production content, including opens, headshots, in-game features, post-game highlights, and sponsorship elements.
  • Creating content that enhances the game-day atmosphere.
  • Assisting with live broadcast and event production in the control room.
  • Coordinating with outside agencies and assisting with footage distribution to complete projects.
  • Storyboarding and developing content from video production to resonate with recruits and fans for social media and game day.
  • Designing and creating artistic video content for social media, interviews, and highlight and recruiting videos for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attending and participating in unit and department meetings on a continual basis.
  • Assisting the Director of Creative Video with additional tasks as assigned.
  • Supervising and teaching student employees and freelancers; assisting with scheduling weekly coverage by student employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in video production, communications, marketing, business management, fine arts, or any other related field.
  • Experience employing and/or operating various cameras, lighting, audio, and other video production equipment required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in video production (intern, GA, and professional experience applicable).
  • Ability to adapt to the ever-changing video production industry.
  • Ability to work on projects individually as well as within a team.
  • Ability to bring creative ideas to fruition.
  • Excellent attention to detail as well as strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable NCAA rules and regulations; willingness to report any rules violations; commitment to the Department's culture of compliance.
  • Must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.

Nice-to-haves
