About the position

The Assistant Director of Education and Research is a remote position that involves significant travel (30-40%). The role is designed for a veterinarian who is passionate about veterinary medicine and education, focusing on supporting the Division Director in developing and implementing policies and programs related to the accreditation of veterinary schools and colleges. The Assistant Director collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and provides educational support during site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Provides staff support and consultation on matters related to veterinary education and accreditation.
  • Supports accreditation site visits for veterinary medical schools/colleges.
  • Develops and implements initial training for accreditation site visitors and annual retraining.
  • Maintains quality assurance programs for site visits and processes in consultation with the Division Director.
  • Consults and communicates with staff, college educators, and administrators on veterinary education issues.
  • Maintains knowledge of accreditation practices and recommends procedural and policy changes.
  • Assists the Division Director with various duties as needed.
  • Exhibits a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in executing duties.

Requirements

  • Minimum of ten years of related work experience, including experience as a veterinary clinician.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in veterinary education.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes is desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience.
  • Experience working with veterinary college administrators is highly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Skilled in diplomatic facilitation of consensus between multiple perspectives.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with both scientific and non-scientific communities.
  • Strong involvement with organized veterinary medicine is highly desirable.
  • DVM/VMD or equivalent degree required.
  • Relevant advanced education and/or board certification.
