About the position

The Assistant Director of Employee Relations is responsible for overseeing the employee relations, civil service, ethics, and compliance functions within the Human Resources Department of the City of Denton. This role involves providing practical advice on various employment issues, ensuring legal compliance, and implementing HR programs that promote continuous improvement. The position requires collaboration with the City Attorney's office and other stakeholders to address employment-related matters, conduct investigations, and develop training programs for staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of Human Resources programs related to legal compliance and employee relations.
  • Partner with the City Attorney's office on legal compliance and employee relation items.
  • Investigate complaints including harassment, discrimination, and ethics violations.
  • Review termination recommendations and consult with stakeholders on personnel-related issues.
  • Provide advice and best-practice recommendations related to employment matters.
  • Identify and recommend remedial measures and improvement processes for compliance.
  • Direct the development and compliance of policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop training for managers and employees.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Facilitate interdepartmental teams to accomplish programs or special projects.
  • Oversee the Civil Service Secretary and assist with Civil Service Director responsibilities.
  • Research, gather data, analyze, and prepare reports for stakeholders.
  • Establish and execute a communication plan for division meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in employee relations or employment law.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government laws regarding human resources.
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
