About the position

The Assistant Director of Events and Orientation is responsible for the planning of recruitment events and assisting the Director of Orientation with orientation events for undergraduate enrollment management at The University of Southern Mississippi. This includes the planning and implementation of on-campus and off-campus recruitment events, including events for freshmen, transfer students, and high school and community/junior college counselors and staff. This position trains student and professional staff as well as communicates event details proactively to campus partners.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Director of Orientation and Director of Recruitment to plan and coordinate undergraduate enrollment events including, but not limited to, on-campus and off-campus events for incoming freshmen, transfer students, high school counselors and staff, and community/junior college counselors and staff.
  • Serves as a liaison between campus partners to ensure event details are communicated effectively and promptly including, but not limited to, event logistics, scheduling, venue arrangements and other recruitment best practices.
  • Collaborates with the Enrollment Management communication team to create and maintain event invitation and registration responses as well as print and digital materials for events.
  • Assists the Director of Orientation with orientation planning and student training needs which includes some overnight and weekend activities.
  • Serves as liaison with students to ensure consistent and smooth transition throughout the enrollment process by corresponding and working with prospective and current students and families in person, via email, and over the phone.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communication studies, public relations, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two to four years of experience working in event management, enrollment, and/or student development in an educational setting.
  • Must have a valid driver's license or be able to obtain upon employment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office, ability to utilize a PC and keyboard to perform data entry.
  • Ability to drive a university vehicle and transport campus partners.
  • Ability to travel with some travel occurring overnight.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends.
  • Ability to adapt to an environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in coordinating with different stakeholders.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Attention to details and deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in event planning, communication, or recruitment is a plus but not required.
