About the position

The Assistant Director of Finance and Budget Officer at the Hoover Institution is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing a $130 million annual budget. This position involves providing expert financial partnership and guidance to senior staff, ensuring data-driven insights are utilized in financial decision-making, and fostering collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders. The role requires strong management experience and the ability to build a high-performing team to support budgeting, financial planning, and compliance efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Direct staff and provide leadership to achieve organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement a robust process for generating monthly reporting and quarterly variance analysis.
  • Lead, execute, and communicate operational and long-range budgets, forecasting, and strategy.
  • Independently initiate and create strategic plans for the organization or program(s) managed.
  • Identify and resolve strategic issues that affect overall functioning beyond the immediate unit.
  • Oversee allocation of all resources and manage finances across all sources for the annual budget cycle.
  • Manage and coordinate grants and contracts for the department, ensuring compliance with institutional and external requirements.
  • Advise senior management on programmatic and policy development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management.
  • Five years of progressively responsible managerial experience with demonstrated financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Advanced financial expertise in accounting, budget planning, and financial forecasting.
  • Advanced expertise in grants and contract administration.
